POMPANO BEACH, Florida (May 12, 2006). A new patent has just been issued to Apollo covering a Multi-Cellular Tri-Polar Battery, (US Patent Number 7,037,620 B2), with Lead-Foam Substrates. One hundred (100) claims were allowed by the U.S. Patent Office for this breakthrough battery.
The battery consists of individual cells which can be installed or removed by hand. The entire system is sealed, and each cell has a number of features including recirculating electrolyte, gas purging and automatic watering. A special feature of the battery is a Lead Foam substrate that replaces the typical lead grid in a battery and weighs only 16% of the grid, greatly reducing the weight of the battery. The Lead Foam increases the surface area of the plates resulting in much longer operating time.
A new generation of ELECTRIC CARS can now be built around this battery which could double the range of Apollo’s previous batteries in EFP electric cars. The MARS II Electric Car had a range of 146 miles on a charge according to a General Motors six-month test report (click on GENERAL MOTORS/CORNELL TEST REPORT). A new electric car of this size could now travel over 250 miles on a charge and be recharged in 45-minutes on a fast charger, or overnight at home. Goodbye high gas prices!
The new battery will compete with Nickel Metal Hydride and Lithium Batteries in
power and energy, but cost less than 25% of those batteries. Lead is much less
expensive than nickel or lithium.
